For 2009, we are pleased to announce that R. JOHN WRIGHT DOLLS has been granted the license to produce Mary Cicely Barker's enchanting Flower Fairies™! Measuring 9 to 12 inches tall and fully jointed, each delightful Flower Fairy™ in the collection will be made entirely of the finest all wool felt with a molded face, body, and limbs, realistic coloring, hand painted features, and hand knotted mohair wigs. The delicate fairy wings will be made of molded and hand painted organdy and silk for a simmering, iridescent effect.

Each Flower Fairy™ will be individually designed and costumed according to the original Mary Cicely Barker illustrations including realistic flowers, berries, and leaves hand made entirely out of felt and organdy with exquisite coloration and detail.

Produced in an extremely small edition of just 250 pieces, each Flower Fairy™ in the collection will come enclosed in a deluxe RJW presentation box. Included will be the signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration. The matching number service will be offered subject to availability. Cicely Mary Barker was born in Croydon, South London in 1895. She led a quiet life, and was always happiest with a sketchbook in hand. Owing to ill health she was educated at home and largely taught herself to draw and paint. Despite her lack of formal artistic training her natural talent was commercially recognized when she was only 15 years old with the publication of a set of postcards. But it was her Flower Fairy books, the first of which was published in 1923, which brought her international acclaim as an artist. The delicate charm of her illustrations, coupled with her meticulous botanical accuracy, has captivated both children and adults alike for over 85 years, and the books have become classics of children's literature. It gives us great pleasure to interpret her artwork for the first time in the medium of molded felt.

Flower Fairies of the Spring - The Primrose Fairy™ is constructed of the finest all wool felt. She measures 11 1/2" tall and is fully jointed at shoulders, hips and neck. Primrose has delicately hand painted features and a meticulously hand-knotted wig of the finest imported mohair. The Primrose Fairy has a sculptural molded body and limbs and her graceful hands are sewn with individual fingers. Her magnificent fairy wings are sewn, molded, and hand painted out of fine silk organza.

Primrose is dressed in a 2-piece outfit consisting of a petal skirt and leaf bodice. She wears knit silk tights and dainty slippers on her feet. This Spring Flower Fairy™ comes holding a detailed, realistic primrose blossom made of molded, hand painted felt.

The Primrose Fairy will be produced in an edition limited to only 250 pieces worldwide. FLOWER FAIRIES OF THE SUMMMER - THE HEATHER FAIRY™ is constructed of the finest all wool felt. The first toddler boy in the series, The Heather Fairy measures 9" tall and is fully jointed at shoulders, hips and neck. This charming little elf has delicately hand painted features, pointed fairy ears, and a meticulously hand-knotted wig of the finest imported wispy blonde mohair. The Heather Fairy has a sculptural molded body and limbs and his tiny hands are sewn with individual fingers. His iridescent fairy wings are sewn, molded, and hand painted out of fine silk organza.

The Heather Fairy is dressed in a simple 2-piece outfit consisting of a sleeveless shirt and billowy, gathered shorts. This Summer Flower Fairy comes holding a realistic, detailed branch of heather blossoms made of molded and hand painted felt.

The Pine Tree Fairy is costumed in felt shorts, a long-sleeved belted tunic-style shirt with laced closure, and a molded and delicately hand painted felt pine cone headdress. For warmth, he wears custom-dyed cotton tights and elfin slippers on his feet. The Winter Flower Fairy™ comes holding a detailed, realistic pine cone made of molded, hand painted felt.

With its needles sharp and green;
Small seeds in the cones are hidden,
And they ripen there unseen.

The elves play games with the squirrels

Throwing cones for the squirrels to nibble-
