The development of each R.JOHN WRIGHT design starts with a desire to see a human or animal character
brought to life in the warm and tactile medium of wool felt or plush.
At the R. John Wright design studio in Bennington, Vermont,
extensive research of original source material lays the groundwork for the design.
The character is sketched in the round in the desired scale. These drawings are used for reference
against a preliminary clay sculpture. Once the basic proportions and contours have been established,
the clay sculpture is reproduced in hard modeler's wax for final detailed finishing.
The wax model is used for the fabrication of multi-part metal molds guaranteeing the accuracy and
consistency of each piece in the edition.

Clothing and accessories are designed specifically for each character and
made to exacting standards using the finest traditional materials - many of which are custom-made.
Each item is produced in a strictly numbered limited edition and beautifully packaged with
an accompanying signed and numbered certificate.
Since 1987, every R. JOHN WRIGHT creation features a tiny "RJW" brass button
permanently affixed as a lasting guarantee of authenticity.

Alice in Wonderland

We are proud to present a series of dolls based on the immortal "Alice" books written by Lewis Carroll and illustrated by Sir John Tenniel.

Tenniel's illustrations appeared in the first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland first published in 1865 and were so definitive as to be forever associated with the text. A sequel titled Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found there was first published in 1871 and featured the further adventures of Alice once again brilliantly illustrated by Tenniel. Both books were enormously popular when they first appeared and remain among the most important and enchanting in the realm of classic children's literature.

Our seafaring bears will encounter a formidable group of pirates on the high seas! Their leader, the Pirate King, is the premiere pirate character in the Bears-at-Sea Collection. Measuring a height 23" standing - The Bear Admiral is the largest RJW production bear ever made. The Bear Captain is fully jointed and made of the finest custom-made gray alpaca plush. We are pleased to announce that R. JOHN WRIGHT DOLLS has been granted the license to produce Mary Cicely Barker's enchanting Flower Fairies™! Measuring 9 to 12 inches tall and fully jointed, each delightful Flower Fairy™ in the collection will be made entirely of the finest all wool felt with a molded face, body, and limbs, realistic coloring, hand painted features, and hand knotted mohair wigs. The delicate fairy wings will be made of molded and hand painted organdy and silk for a simmering, iridescent effect.

Each Flower Fairy™ will be individually designed and costumed according to the original Mary Cicely Barker illustrations including realistic flowers, berries, and leaves hand made entirely out of felt and organdy with exquisite coloration and detail.

Palmer Cox is famous the world over for his delightful children's books on the fictional creatures known as the "Brownies." His inspiration for the Brownies came from the Scottish folklore that still survived in and around Granby, Quebec, where he was born in 1840. Cox learned these folktales from his mother which featured the Brownies, or little members of the fairie or goblin world: "imaginary sprites who delight in harmless pranks and helpful deeds. They work and sport while weary households sleep, and never allow themselves to be seen by mortal eyes."

Victorian Children Collection

We are pleased to announce a classic collection of cabinet-sized dolls titled "Victorian Children." The first two pieces in this series are "Abigail" and "Genevieve" - best friends who love to play together with their dolls. Abigail was made as an exclusive edition for the 2008 UFDC Regional conference "Let's Play Dolls!" held in Albany, New York. And her friend, Genevieve was designed as a separate companion piece. Further additions to the series are planned. All are authentically based on period photographs and artwork from the Victorian Era.
