The original comical canine character was created by the English illustrator, G.E. Studdy, and was "born" in the 20s at the Steiff Company - yet without Studdy's consent, none of the more than 100 different prototypes was ever commercially to be mass produced. In 2002, Bonzo" nevertheless became quite famous. An original from the year 1927 achieved the highest bid ever placed at an auction during the Steiff Festival that was made for a "Non-Teddy" by Steiff. Today's "Bonzo" has been painted as a wonderful replica by skilled hands with pen and iron gall ink. His stocky body made of cotton velvet has been stuffed by hand with kapok fibres. Our four-legged friend looks out at the world with his light-blue glass eyes that have a zest for action - ready to tell his new owner all about his eventful "dog's life"!
Made of finest cotton velvet, beige, jointed, surface washable, with glass eyes, with "underscored button" made of patinated steel.
